Bulk creating or requesting Matters allows you to add multiple Matters at once using a spreadsheet template.
💡 Availability depends on your client’s settings
You may be able to create Matters directly or only request Matters for approval. The options you see in Brightflag reflect what your client has enabled.
📤 Requesting Matters in Bulk (Approval Required)
Steps
Go to Menu > Matters > View Matters
Click Request Matter
Select Bulk Upload
(Only visible if enabled by your client)-
Download the spreadsheet template
If multiple templates are available, select the one relevant to your Matters

Complete all required fields exactly as shown

Upload your completed file:
Return to the Bulk Upload page
Click Select File, then Upload Matters
What Happens Next
Your client reviews the request
You receive an approval or rejection email
Approved Matters appear automatically in your Matter list

Steps
Go to Menu > Matters > View Matters
Click Add Matter
Select Bulk Upload
(Only visible if enabled by your client)-
Download the spreadsheet template
If multiple templates are available, select the correct one

Refer to What do the Matter fields mean in Brightflag if needed

Upload your completed file:
Return to the Bulk Upload page
Click Select File, then Upload Matters
What Happens Next
Matters are created automatically
They appear immediately in your Matter list
⚠️ Formatting Rules (Critical)
Failure to follow any of the rules below will cause the bulk upload to fail.
Internal Matter Lead
Must be a valid email address (names or titles are not accepted).Lead Outside Counsel (LOC)
Must be a valid vendor user email address for a user who already has access to the Matter.Currency
Must be a 3-letter ISO currency code (e.g., USD, GBP, EUR).Entity, Department, Matter Category, Country
Must match the available values in Brightflag exactly.
👉 If you’re unsure how these values are listed, contact your client before uploading.Date fields
Must be formatted as Date in Excel or Google Sheets.
(The system will automatically accept local formats such as mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy.)Customer Matter ID and Matter Reference
Must be unique for each Matter. Duplicate values will cause the upload to fail.❌ Do NOT remove, rename, reorder, or add columns
The template structure must remain unchanged.
🚨 Important Notes
If you do not see Bulk Upload, your client has not enabled this feature
Brightflag Support cannot enable bulk creation or requests
If you’re unsure what information to enter, contact your client before uploading
