LEDES Error R225: Line Item Tax Type Does Not Exist

  • Updated

What This Error Means

Your LEDES file contains a column called:

LINE_ITEM_TAX_TYPE

This column must contain a tax type for every line item (for example: VAT, Sales Tax, GST, Exempt).

Brightflag checks each value in this column against the tax types your client has configured in their Brightflag account.

This error appears if:

  • A row in LINE_ITEM_TAX_TYPE is blank

  • The tax type is misspelled

  • The tax type does not exist in the client’s Brightflag setup

The value in every row must exactly match a tax type already configured by the client.

How to Resolve It

  1. Open your LEDES file.

  2. Locate the column: LINE_ITEM_TAX_TYPE.

  3. Check every row in that column.

  4. Make sure:

    • No rows are blank

    • The spelling is consistent

    • The value matches a tax type set up by your client

Next, confirm which tax types are configured for your client.

👉 See: How to Check Which Tax Types Are Configured in Brightflag

These are the only tax types you can use.

If the tax type you need is not listed in Brightflag, contact your client’s Brightflag Admin and ask them to configure it.
