What This Error Means
Your LEDES file contains a column called:
LINE_ITEM_TAX_TYPE
This column must contain a tax type for every line item (for example: VAT, Sales Tax, GST, Exempt).
Brightflag checks each value in this column against the tax types your client has configured in their Brightflag account.
This error appears if:
A row in
LINE_ITEM_TAX_TYPEis blankThe tax type is misspelled
The tax type does not exist in the client’s Brightflag setup
The value in every row must exactly match a tax type already configured by the client.
How to Resolve It
Open your LEDES file.
Locate the column:
LINE_ITEM_TAX_TYPE.Check every row in that column.

Make sure:
No rows are blank
The spelling is consistent
The value matches a tax type set up by your client
Next, confirm which tax types are configured for your client.

These are the only tax types you can use.
If the tax type you need is not listed in Brightflag, contact your client’s Brightflag Admin and ask them to configure it.
