Brightflag allows you to submit budget requests either manually (one matter at a time) or in bulk (multiple matters using Excel).
If you do not see the Budget option in your menu, your client may have disabled this feature. Contact your client directly.
Option 1: Submit a Budget Manually (Single Matter)
Step 1: Open the Matter
Go to: Menu > Matters > View Matters
Click the Matter Reference for the relevant matter.
Step 2: Request Budget
Select the Request Budget tab.
Choose the year.
Past years and quarters cannot be edited.
Enter budget amounts by quarter (or month, depending on client setup).
Step 3: Submit
Click Request Budget.
You will receive an email once the request is approved or rejected.
Option 2: Submit Budgets in Bulk (Multiple Matters)
Best when submitting budgets for several matters at once.
Step 1: Download the Template
Go to Menu > Matter Budget Requests
Click Upload Budgets
Select Budget Type (Monthly or Quarterly).
Click Download Excel Template
Step 2: Complete the Template
You May Edit:
Year
Quarterly/Monthly Fees
Quarterly/Monthly Expenses
Quarterly/Monthly Comments (optional)
Important Rules:
Submit separate templates for each year.
You cannot submit budgets for past quarters.
Only enter values for current or future periods.
Do not remove pre-filled zeros.
Do NOT Change:
Column names
Matter Ref
Matter Name
Client Matter ID
Currency
Submitted By
Changing these will cause upload errors.
Step 3: Upload the File
Return to Menu > Matter Budget Requests
Click Upload Budgets
Select your saved file
Click Upload
